Jodie Chapman Photography bio picture
  • I fell in love with photography as a child, helping my dad develop pictures of landscapes in his darkroom. Years later, I too became a photographer.

I am fascinated by people. Few things make me happier than spending a few hours in the company of my family albums. They allow me to dream about a world I never knew - my mum's childhood, my parents' wedding day, my early years - one that I only know existed because the pictures are there to prove it.

This feeling of nostalgia is what motivates my work. I approach each subject, whether it is a wedding, a portrait or even a landscape, with the desire to capture the emotion. Be it happiness or sadness, each picture tells a story of that exact moment in time. That is what I aim to capture.

Other than photography, my passions in life include films, California, Mid Century Modern design, my cat Annie Hall, and growing old with the people I love.

And if Mastermind ever call, they can question me to death on the subject of Mad Men.

Portrait Shoot | Ellane & Louis ~ New York, New York

21 October 2010

This has to be one of my favourite shoots ever. What’s not to love? A stylish couple, amazing light and the best city in the world.  When Ellane asked if I would be happy to photograph her and Louis during their vacation in New York, I jumped at the chance.  I love this place, and it was the most fantastic shoot to research, as not only did Ellane and Louis want to explore all the iconic NY landmarks, but they wanted it to take place over two days.  And so that’s exactly what we did.

Locations we visited included the Guggenheim, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Flat Iron building and district, Times Square and possibly my favourite….Brooklyn Bridge at sunset.  People might label Paris as the city of love, but it’s New York that makes my heart skip a beat.

Ellane was attended to by Sachiko throughout the shoot, who not only is an incredible hair and make-up artist based in Brooklyn, but is also a truly lovely person.  She made an already-beautiful Ellane even more gorgeous.  I’m a very lucky photographer.

There are quite a few images so you might want to fix yourself a cuppa before settling down for some eye candy…
