Wedding | Reiko & Baptiste ~ Paris, Je t’aime

I was lucky enough to be back in France last month for the beautiful wedding of Reiko and Baptiste, which took place in Paris.  Having already had their official wedding in Japan, Reiko and Baptiste wanted a second celebration to take place surrounded by Baptiste’s family and friends in France. So they did just that.

Reiko got ready at the beautiful Plaza Athénée, an amazing 5* hotel just moments away from the Champs-Élysées and a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower.  It was Paris Fashion Week so there were lots of well dressed people in town, not least Reiko who looked gorgeous in her custom-made ’60s lace dress complete with pink Miu Miu heels. We then hopped in a cab and went across town to L’Auberge du Bonheur, a beautiful restaurant in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne park.

It was a beautiful day and evening, and the weather held to allow us to get some gorgeously lit, natural portraits in the park before heading in for dinner, which of course was incredible.

To Reiko & Baptiste ~ Thanks so much to you both for having me as your photographer.  I loved getting to know you both and you were an absolute pleasure to shoot.

I feel that there’s just one thing left to say… Vive la France!

lilymarlene - Splendid!

Jenny - The colours in these are beautiful. I love that metro sign. Tres belle!

Dave Jackson - Jodie, these are fantastic. I’ve visited the Plaza Athenee before and it’s quite a place.

Greg Chapman - These are stunning Jodie. Love the shots with the sparklers, especially the black and white one!

Aimee & Gary | The night before ~ good food, wine & a beautiful sunset

The night before Aimee and Gary got married in Provence, they enjoyed a meal with all their guests at the venue’s restaurant, Le Jardin dans les Vignes, which translates to “The Garden in the Grapevines”.  It was as beautiful as its name, and provided a spread of gorgeous food.  If there’s one thing the French know, it’s how to lay on good food and wine.

A short while into the evening, the music began. The Gypsy Queens are an acoustic band currently based in Cannes, but with members hailing from across Europe.  They started playing as they walked down the hill to the restaurant, so the music grew louder and louder until they arrived and launched straight into song.  They went from table to table, taking requests and singing and playing live with zero amplification.  They suited the relaxed nature of the evening beautifully.

Every single one of these images was taken without flash.  Using available light as much as possible allows me to capture portraits naturally and unnoticed.  To me, flash kills the atmosphere.

The weather stayed warm until the dinner ended just after midnight. Everybody was merry with wine and the sunset provided a spectacular view.  It wasn’t even the official wedding day, but everything was pretty much perfect.

Greg - These are phenomenal Jodie. I love your use of natural light. I don’t see any other wedding photographers who capture light and atmosphere like you do. Amazing. Can’t wait to see the rest of the New York shoot.

Steph - The thing I love about your photos, is that you actually feel you were present on the day, and you feel as if you are witnessing it all first hand…truly magical. Greg’s right, you are super talented and so unique. x

David Jenkins - Beautiful Jodie. I can’t get enough of those wide colour shots at night. The second to last one is a killer shot!!

Bernadette Chapman - What beautiful images, I esp. love the musicians and how they ‘roam’ amongst the guests. You can also tell everyone is having such a great time with good wine and lots of chat.

Aimee & Gary | Wedding ~ A French Affair

I am so lucky that I get the opportunity to travel so much doing a job I love.  Last month I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Aimee and Gary’s stunning wedding in Provence.

Aimee and Gary both live in Singapore and as England is no longer their home, they didn’t feel it was the right place for them to get married.  After extensive research and flying all over visiting venues, they decided on La Coquillade.  With its vineyards and amazing views, the venue was a fantastic backdrop to the day’s proceedings and provided superb accommodation for their family and friends.  I lived in France as a child and going back to the country for the first time in ten years reminded me of what a beautiful place it is.

The ceremony was held in a beautiful 13th Century church in the picturesque village of Ménerbes.  Not only did the church provide beautiful colours and light (the light, oh the light!), but it sits atop a hill that gives stunning views of the surrounding landscape.  After the guests enjoyed their own mini bottles of champagne after the ceremony, the celebrations moved to the venue with a cocktail reception on the terrace.  The food was truly amazing ~ course after course arrived of the most gorgeous food imaginable.  Speeches are always the favourite part of a wedding day for me, and Gary’s speech was especially lovely to hear as I got a very unexpected thank you and gift from them both.  My camera proved perfect for hiding my blushing cheeks behind.  After dinner came dancing which went on until 7am!

Aimee told me early on in her wedding plans that they both loved good food, wine and climate.  Their wedding involved plenty of all three.  I had originally met Aimee and Gary at Elaine & Alistair’s wedding last year, and since last month I have been booked by one of their guests to photograph their wedding next summer.  I love finding new clients this way ~ not only are personal recommendations fantastic, but it also means I get to catch up with my clients again at other weddings!

To Aimee & Gary ~ I can’t say a big enough thank you for having me capture your *beautiful* day.  I was overwhelmed by your generosity and kindness to me, and really enjoyed myself far too much!  I hope you love your images and I cannot wait to design you an amazing album.

Wedding | Kelli & Robert ~ Ibiza

After their engagement shoot in Hampstead Heath and an intimate family service in West Sussex, I headed to Ibiza at the start of the month to capture Kelli & Robert’s island celebrations. They decided to have the wedding at one of their favourite holiday spots, Hotel Rural Es Cucons, a place that combines rustic beauty with a feeling of luxury.  It reminded me of the Joshua Trees in California, with cacti and tropical plants and old stone outbuildings.  Kelli walked down the aisle to Elvis Presley’s If I Can Dream (I LOVE Elvis!), and they walked back up the aisle to a showtune from Mary Poppins ~ a quirky touch that really suited the relaxed nature of the wedding.   Immediately after the ceremony, they released a bunch of red heart balloons with messages from guests tied with string.  After drinks around the pool, the party sat down under the trees for a delicious meal with the sun setting in the distance.  The evening party began with Kelli and Robert’s first dance, to the sounds of a special mix of Chasing Cars, featuring all the different cover versions of the song.  It was a surprise from Robert to Kelli and was a beautiful touch.

Forgive the many detail shots…I just have too many favourites from this stunning wedding.
