I am just about to head off to photograph Chris and Katie’s wedding in Tunbridge Wells today. Really excited about this wedding, as photos are really important to them and they want to spend good time capturing portraits of them both. Having photographed a wedding at the Hotel du Vin before, I know it offers fantastic opportunities for photographing both inside and out so I’m looking forward to getting some beautiful shots.
Images will follow on the blog soon after… Watch this space.

Kat from the fabulous Rock’n'Roll Bride served me a double whammy last week, with not one but TWO posts! First up she interviewed me for her “Under the Spotlight” series, where I talk about my style of photography and what I love about weddings. Then later in the week she featured Chris and Nicola’s shoot along the South Bank, which has had such a fantastic response from many of you who read the blog. Thank you all so much for your comments ~ I truly value each and every one and am grateful that you take the time to write.
I hope you enjoy the posts!

Yesterday, I had a wander along the Embankment and South Bank with Nicola and Chris to capture some relaxed portraits of them both before their wedding in March. As creative types {Nicola is a picture editor and Chris is a toy designer ~ how cool!} they thought some pictures by the Tate Modern gallery would work well, so we headed in that direction. They also love the Victorian elements along the South Bank, such as the gorgeous ornate lamp-posts, so we incorporated those into the pictures too. Despite the grey and chilly weather, we had fun roaming around the South Bank book market and in the skater park, where walls of bright colour gave great picture opportunities along with gorgeous natural light.
Pre-wedding shoots are a great addition to the modern wedding photography experience and I think that they are so useful that I include them as complimentary in my main package.
I’m really looking forward to Chris and Nicola’s wedding, especially as they are keen to spend a good amount of time capturing portraits of them both. Photography is really important to them which makes me love my job even more.
I am really pleased with these images and wanted to blog them as soon as possible. I am also slightly in love with Nicola’s boots…
To Nicola and Chris ~ roll on March!

Last night I delivered Ali and Elaine’s album to them at their home in South London. Their beautiful wedding at Pembroke Lodge was one of my highlights of 2009 and I was so happy that they love their album. Ali and Elaine were recommended to me by my clients, Gemma and Stuart, whose gorgeous wedding took place the previous year. Referrals are my favourite way of gaining new clients, so I am very excited to be photographing Aimee and Gary’s wedding in August, who were guests at Ali and Elaine’s wedding.
I know that Elaine is an avid follower of the blog, so I wanted to say a big thank you to her personally for choosing me as her wedding photographer. Elaine, I hope you love your album for many years to come. I loved spending time with you both on your special day and if the emotion of this photo is anything to go by, you have a very bright future ahead together.

Yes, I’m a bit late off the mark for this one. We are entering the second week of 2010 and so I should be looking to the future, not the past! But I’m a very nostalgic person and love to look back at photos, so here are some of my favourites from portrait sessions last year. They are a combination of client sessions, training days, and shooting family members. The training days allowed me to further develop my skills in using natural and artificial light, enabling me to offer my clients unique images they could never get elsewhere. Obviously, capturing shots of family is so important to me, not only because I deeply love the person I’m photographing but because it makes me so happy to create images that the rest of my family will love and treasure for years to come.
On a personal note, I spent the evening with my grandmother recently and we looked through old albums that featured pictures of my Mum when she was a little girl in the 1950s. It was such a wonderful and emotional experience and allowed me to see a side of my Mum that has never been shown to me. In danger of sounding cheesy, looking through those albums reminded me of what is important in life and how precious family is. I try to approach portraits in the same way ~ I am capturing a little slice of time for my clients and subjects; a slice of time that will hopefully one day give them that same experience.
I hope you enjoy this little review of the year and the beautiful expressions that look back at you.

The end of the year has arrived and what a fantastic year it has been for Jodie Chapman Photography. 2009 has been the most successful yet in terms of numbers of clients and achieving that elusive dream ~ job satisfaction. I graduated from the Bespoke programme run by the prestigious Annabel Williams studio and was able to add journalistic experience to the CV by way of my monthly column with Photo Pro magazine. It’s been such a pleasure to work with all my wonderful clients and friends in the industry over the last twelve months and to you all, I would like to say a huge thank you.
2010 looks as though it’s going to be even better, as I aim to push the portrait side of the business further into the spotlight, as well as photographing beautiful weddings in Kent, London, Suffolk, Somerset, Cheshire and even France.
Here are a “few” of my favourites from this year’s weddings. Thank you to all of my gorgeous brides and grooms ~ you were fabulous and I loved every minute of your day!
{A selection of portrait favourites will follow sometime next week}

On a recent trip to see my brother and his family, I took along my camera and captured some photographs of baby Felix, who has just turned one year old. I photographed my nieces back in March, and this time it was the turn of their baby brother. With those gorgeous big brown eyes, beautiful natural light and a fantastic prime lens, we scored some crackers for the family album.
Capturing portraits of loved ones is such an important part of living life when they grow and change every day. If you would like to have some similar portraits created of your family, feel free to contact me through the website and we can set a date. The opportunity to own the images starts at £95 for a one hour portrait session, viewing session and online gallery. Any images you choose to own can be produced in a beautiful album or in a stunning frame to hang in your home.
I know I’m biased, but isn’t he just adorable?

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to photograph some clients in my favourite city, New York. Emily and Michael are getting married next July and the original plan was to stage the shoot around the City of London, where they both work. However, as Michael and Emily were spending a month in NYC for business/pleasure during November, I thought it would be a great idea to meet up during my trip there last week.
I asked Emily & Michael to have a think about some locations they would like to visit, and they came up with Central Park and Grand Central Station amongst others. I suggested we meet at the Guggenheim late morning, as it’s such an incredible building to photograph and proved a fantastic backdrop to begin the shoot. We then wandered through into Central Park and made the most of the beautiful terraces, park benches and of course, that skyline. I was hoping there would still be some fall colours around and the city didn’t let me down. Oranges, browns, reds, yellows - you name it, the park had it. We also managed to snag a serenade from a busker, who played “Here Comes the Bride” on his saxophone specially for Emily and Michael.
Pre-wedding shots are a great opportunity to experiment with a few different editing styles. Whereas it is my firm belief that the wedding album must have consistent, classic colours to ensure it does not date, the engagement session can be a little more fun and modern. I’ve tried a few techniques which give the images some spark and life…just like the city they were shot in.
To Emily and Michael ~ I hope you love these images as much as I do. I had so much fun with you both and it was the perfect way to spend an afternoon in New York City.

A couple of posts ago, I mentioned how much I wanted to get back to New York. Well, a couple of weeks have passed…and I’m here. It’s been a busy year and G and I haven’t had a proper holiday since California last year, so we decided to bite the bullet and go for a last-minute trip. However, the last week has been so manic and stressful that I’m not sure I will ever book a last-minute holiday again!
So I’m here, just loaded my Rollei, Holga and Polaroid cameras and about to head into the city. My plan is simply to photograph the city to death. Might catch a few films whilst I’m here, but for the most part, i’m just so pleased to be seeing family and relaxing with some good coffee. Simple pleasures.
